Philips and Pacific Knowledge Systems partner to bring innovative healthcare solution to Europe

Sydney, Australia – Pacific Knowledge Systems (PKS) has signed an agreement with Philips to enhance its laboratory automation system – LABOSYS – and deliver new capabilities and innovative services to its customers. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

As part of the agreement Philips will integrate PKS’ patented RippleDown technology into its LABOSYS laboratory information management system to deliver greater clinical insights as well as advanced demand management, error detection, patient-centric reporting, clinical alerting and data mining capabilities to improve the overall laboratory quality, workflow and service for Philips’ end-users.

With a growing market demand for patient-centric reporting and recommendation capabilities, Philips recognised the need to deliver a solution which provides tailored insights and interpretations to enable sophisticated patient diagnosis and treatment advice, which led to the partnership with PKS.

According to Henri Geurts, Business Manager Clinical Informatics and director Software Customer Services at Philips, the partnership with PKS will enable Philips to expand the capabilities and performance of its LABOSYS product, delivering significant efficiency, quality and productivity gains to its customers.

“Improving the quality and performance of the overall laboratory workflow has become increasingly important, particularly as laboratories are having to manage growing volumes of tests that are becoming more and more complex,” Henri Geurts said. “By partnering with PKS, we are able to immediately enhance our LABOSYS capability and deliver clinical expert intelligence to our customers so they can better leverage the expertise within their laboratory, and deliver superior services to their clients.”

Targeted at the Dutch market, the combined solution will provide a unique point of differentiation for Philips, while expanding PKS’ presence in the European region.

“Clinical expert intelligence is an incredibly powerful capability, which we’ve seen achieve some impressive results around the world. When combined with Philips’ LABOSYS, we will deliver a truly unique and innovative solution for Philips customers,” said Paul Williams, CEO of PKS. “With PKS the LABOSYS solution will be enhanced by providing sophisticated medical validation, reflex testing, real-time alerts and data mining capabilities, in addition to Philips’ comprehensive laboratory information management system.”

The partnership with PKS is an integral part of Philips’ strategy to accelerate innovation and business growth, and delivers a truly integrated and comprehensive, end-to-end healthcare informatics solution.
